Can We See Selves in the Wild?

I encounter a fair number of people in my life.  I eat out, I shop, I work, iTravel.  Nevertheless, I’m struck by how very few people of quality I meet.  I know, this isn’t politically correct to say, and that “only evil people deserve to be held back from the highest offerings (of estimation)”.  A sort of presumption of innocence (Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat) towards human values.  But the things we value are not themselves of equal value.  This is as true within a person’s values as between people’s values.

Just as we are what we eat, physically speaking, so too are we what we value, metaphysically speaking.  (Trogoautoegocratic)

Can we see selves in the wild?  Wittgenstein saw (here):

‘the human body is the best picture of the human soul’

(Then I heard some gossip that he abandoned pictures.  Did he switch to Sound’s words’ metaphorically abstract roots?)

Does your picture of reality show humans as they are, plain for the eye to see, or cloaks draped over masses underneath (ideally both?)?  Perhaps the scene with some is lighter, nevertheless, is the seeing-through there?  Can you see what people are made of?  Who’s whole?  I have always trusted in myself that I was good at this, but who knows.  Anyway, I don’t have explicit theories, or step by step instructions.  Nevertheless, I’ll try to collect some odds and ends:

  • Itching and Scratching (Feel yourself itch and what you’re thinking at the time, watch others scratch and try and guess what they’re thinking, personal acupuncture)
  • Posture (How a person holds themselves physically is directly related to all sorts of metaphors about how they hold themselves in other ways, from overall to small parts)
  • Rhythm (Timing tells a whole lot about the sorts of processes that are motivating action, and when they hold sway)
  • Eyes (Complicated but rewarding)
  • Words (Diction is always revealing, so is accent and tone of speech and breathing)
  • Breathing
  • Expressed Values and Desires (discriminate between which are beneficial and which are hurtful)
  • Eagerness (for something) to Apathy (against what?)
  • Body (Musculature, Skin Quality, Hair, Smell, Teeth, Moles, Clothing)
  • Diet
  • Hygiene
  • Cultural Familiarity
  • Intelligence (Adaptability, Creativity, Analysis, Abstraction)
  • Familiarity w\ Deep Meanings
  • Sense of Life
  • Self Confidence
  • Sexuality
  • Social Skill
  • Spirit(uality)
  • Castles, Forests, Mountains, Seasons and Seas
  • Nooks and Crannies
  • et cetera

We’ve all got our own combination of this and that along these (and many neglected) dimensions.  It really comes down to what patterns you are comfortable perceiving (about yourself and your experiences) in others.
